Health
Visitors coming from the Far East, Central America, South, Central and West Africa may be required to have valid certificates of inoculation against yellow fever and cholera. Please contact the nearest Kenyan consulate for further details. It is not advisable to drink tap water purified water or bottled water is recommended. Anti - malaria tablets should be taken before and after your visit to Kenya. Please contact your Doctor for anti - malaria prescription.
Visas
All visitors to Kenya are required to have valid passports. Visas may take up to six weeks to process and are normally valid for 3 months. There are some specific countries of which visas can be issued at the Airport. Kindly check with the nearest consulate for visa requirements.
Customs
You may import personal effects like binoculars, cameras and films temporarily into the country but customs bond will be required for video equipment and musical instruments/equipment's. Consumable in small quantities will also be
allowed duty free.
Dress
East Africans appreciate decent behaviour devoid of immoral tendencies.
Visitors are therefore advised to show respect of the local people, their culture and traditions. Walking in public in swimwear or nude bathing is not recommended.
Currency
The unit of the Kenyan currency is the Kenya Shilling, divided into 100 cents. Travellers can bring into the country and take out of the country as much money without customs declaration except that all transactions must be official.
Hunting/Game Trophies
Hunting and trafficking of game trophies is banned in Kenya.
Departure Taxes
Departure tax is applicable on all local flights (payable in any convertible currency) on international flights.
Security
In keeping in tradition with many tourist centers in the world, visitors are advised not to leave any valuables in their hotel rooms but make use of the safe deposit boxes when they go out or even when staying in the hotels.
Carrying of large sums of cash and wearing of ornamental jewellery encourages theft. Ladies should keep a tight grip of their handbags. Do not leave your car with luggage unattended.
